SandStory Therapy®
I am a qualified SandStory Therapy® practitioner and can offer this within play therapy or as a separate therapeutic intervention. SandStory Therapy® can be a helpful medium to allow children and adolescents to express themselves in a symbolic and playful way, especially when talking feels difficult. The sand becomes a space where their stories can unfold gently and at their own pace.
What is SandStory Therapy®
SandStory Therapy® offers a gentle way for young people to shape their stories into something seen, held, and understood. Using 'Symbols' such as miniature figures and natural objects, and the soothing texture of sand, clients create stories that can reflect their inner world. Each movement in the tray becomes a word; each symbol, a feeling or experience given form. Rather than forcing a story into sentences, the sand provides a safe, playful language of its own. This expressive approach can support children and young people to explore emotions, trauma, identity, and hope. The therapist stands alongside the creator like a curious companion, noticing, asking, and honouring what unfolds. SandStory Therapy® doesn’t rush healing. SandStory Therapy® for Adolescents
SandStory Therapy® invites young people to tell their stories in a space that feels safe, creative, and free from pressure. Rather than relying only on words, teenagers can express themselves through symbols, objects, and the shifting landscape of sand. The tray becomes a private world where feelings can be explored without judgment.
This approach helps adolescents who find talking overwhelming or feel unsure how to describe their emotions. It nurtures self-awareness, emotional regulation, confidence, and resilience. Themes such as identity, relationships, anxiety, loss, and change can emerge naturally through hands-on creation. My role is to witness, reflect, and support insight as meaning unfolds.
